British Photography of the 1980s: A Day at the Martin Parr Foundation

This last Saturday, I was lucky to attend a seminar at the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol. British Photography in the 1980s featured five accomplished photographers who were growing and establishing themselves in the British photographic industry of the 1980s, Anna Fox, Jem Southam, Karen Knorr, Paul Graham, and Chris Killip.

Cowley Road Carnival, 2016

Cowley Road Carnival, 2016

Cowley Road recently saw it’s 16th annual carnival and parade on Sunday, 10 July. I am the husband of a dancer in the community band, Sol Samba, so I’ll admit, the coverage is a bit samba-heavy.

So where does an introvert spend a carnival, so well attended? Why, right in the middle of the street parade, of course, hiding behind a camera, and going with the flow of traffic. By far, the quickest way from one end of Cowley to the other during a carnival like this one.
